Rivers & Waterfalls – Natural Sloped Rivers
Minecraft rivers currently generate at a flat Y level, which often creates unnatural terrain, giant ravines, and rivers without a clear direction. Rivers & Waterfalls is a world-generation idea that improves rivers and waterfalls without changing water mechanics.
Rivers would gradually slope downward instead of staying flat (for example, dropping 1 block every 1–2 blocks). They would usually start above sea level in hills or mountains and flow naturally toward oceans or large lakes. This would give rivers a clear direction, improve navigation, and reduce extreme terrain cuts.
When rivers lose height more rapidly, they could generate small cascades or large waterfalls. Some waterfalls (not always) could hide cave entrances, connections to Lush Caves, or small abandoned structures, adding exploration and environmental storytelling.
Rare wide rivers could support long-distance boat travel and sometimes contain shipwrecks or remains of old trade routes, suggesting ancient civilizations. In cold biomes, wide frozen rivers could act as natural ice roads.
This idea improves immersion, exploration, and visuals, works well with shaders and high render distance, and feels like a natural continuation of Caves & Cliffs.
