I'm not really too upset by this change, but I am quite upset at what it suggests. The version numbers for minecraft are simply far too iconic to change this late into the games life, no one's gonna be saying "Oh yeah, my favorite update was 26.3.2!" It feels so clinical and lifeless compared to the plain and simple 1.(blank). While the newer version numbering system (VNS since I have limited characters here) does help organize when and update comes out and what kind of update it is, it feels more like a sub-section of a VNS. Like the next update after the mounts of mayhem drop is 1.21 (26.1), rather than just being 26.1 on its own. I believe if this new form of VNS is to be implemented, the best way to do so is as a sub-section to the primary update number, which could even help dettach the drops from the main game updates (if Mojang plans on doing another one of those ever). This is definitely one to listen to the fans on, and while I don't hate it ENTIRELY, It really does sound like we're straying away from main updates entirely now, and even if that is the case, wiping the old VNS off the game from here on out is NOT the way to do it.
