I really like VV however I have a problem when using any fire aspect weapon or whenever there's generally just bright objects against a dark background. The auto exposure takes effect and dramatically darkens the surroundings, reducing visibility and giving me eye strain. What's worse is that it's not just one consistent darkness; the fire flickering affects it drastically, making the effect so much hard for the eyes to adjust to.
Here are a few suggestions that might help improve VV:
-
Adjust auto-exposure sensitivity
Making auto-exposure transitions more gradual, or reducing how strongly it reacts to sudden brightness spikes, would prevent the screen from dramatically darkening. -
Clamp the minimum exposure value
Setting a limit so exposure never dips below a certain threshold would keep dark areas visible even when bright particles or enchantment effects appear. -
Improve emissive handling
Fire aspect, glowing items, torches, and other light-emitting objects could be treated differently so that they don’t trigger extreme exposure shifts. Correct the emissive intensity, or place them in a separate layer outside the general auto-exposure calculation. -
Add an in-game toggle or slider
Allowing players to fine-tune auto-exposure strength (or disable it). -
Optional HDR tuning
If HDR is being used, exposing more control over brightness curves or tone-mapping might help players match the visuals to their comfort level.
