Knife weapon with melee and range options. damage varies across materials. stackable?

    The knives could be stackable withouth having durability but could do little extra damage when used as melee so it doesn't replace any other weapons (like having 0.5 more each tier or just having wood, stone, copper and gold doing 2 and iron, diamond and netherite doing 3 or just every tier having the same damage like 2 or 3 so it isn't op). Could be fast but the range and damage would balance it. Like a faster bow but more or less expensive depending on material and with little damage and probably no knockback.
