Minecraft is my favorite game of all time. Truly. I adore the game, and that's why I now have to criticize it. Things are looking bad, guys. Bedrock is broken. And even when it's not, it's so bloated with advertisements for add-on's that it's practically un-playable. I mean, seriously. They replaced the settings button with the add-ons button. What the heck?
But even beyond that. Ever since Minecraft announced that they were going to start doing "drops" instead of updates, I got a bad feeling. And now, over a year later, I think I was right. When was the last time something truly exciting was added? I'm not just talking about a new mob, or a new block. I'm talking about an actual impact on the game at large. Look at something like the Nether Update. Or the Village and Pillage Update. Or the Aquatic Update, or the Caves and Cliffs Update. All of those had an impact on the game. It changed the way we played by introducing, or changing something that already existed. And then fast forward to the recent updates:
We got:
Dog armor and the armadillo (Armored Paws)
optional Trial Chambers and a new niche weapon (Tricky Trials)
bundles... that's it (Bundles of Bravery)
a new biome and mob (The Garden Awakens)
firefly bushes and flowers (Spring to Life)
Happy Ghasts (Chase the Skies)
and now, a useless new tool and armor set, and finicky complicated sorters.
Notice that NONE of the recent updates affect the game at large? Minecraft Updates used to be exciting. We need that again. Please.
