The 1.18 update Caves & Cliffs: Part II did a wonderul job of upgrading Minecraft's worldgen, with massive mountains and stunning caverns. However, there is one problem I've encountered while playing: overconsistency. (if that's a word.) While minecraft terrain does look good, it's hard to find an interesting place to settle down. I may be wrong, but it is my understanding that biomes are overlayed onto terrain and do not affect things like land formation. I have an idea on how to make the games terrain look more interesting, an idea that I'll refer to as "geo regions." The concept is simple - similar to the way biomes are overlayed onto terrain, the geo regions are "overlays" that determine how the terrain itself is generated. For example, there could be mountanous regions, flatter regions, hilly regions, archipelagos even. The geo regions control factors such as terrain height limit, smoothing, protrusion frequency, maybe even things like frequency and size for bodies of water. Overlaying biomes over a world with variates geo regions provides diversity to the land and adds suspense to exploration. With this concept implemented, different types of biomes would occur, I'll refer to them as "sub-biomes." For example, a plains biome over a hilly geo region would produce rolling plains. A plains biome over a flat geo region would create flat plains perfect for building. Variated terrain like this would make it easier for players to find their perfect Minecraft experience.
