The shield should protect only short/small sources of damage then be instantly disable like it is with the axe. Its a fact that the shield is way too broken on both survival vanilla gameplay and combat and should be nerfed somehow and thats one idea that came up on my mind while watching so many scenarios (explosions being one example) that the shield is way more valuable than a Totem of Undying, drop more ideas in the comments on how to nerf the shield and I will edit this post based on it.
