This mold-like substance is a living, breathing, consuming infestation that has grown over sprawling cities and crawling jungles in a new dimension: The Sculk. Some buildings are host to primitive redstone contraptions of a strange and unknown purpose. It could be that these ancient builders were trying to resist the Sculk from spreading throughout their world. Because the one odd thing they have in common is their incorporation of copper components. Copper chains and copper-lined walls contain essential samples for Sculk experimentation as it struggles to infest this toxic, orange metal. As such, buildings made of typical construction materials have been decayed by the Sculk. While copper buildings remain mostly untouched. Much like gold in the Nether, copper has become the most valuable resource in the Sculk dimension. Tools and weapons made of copper are more effective against the Sculk and the creatures native to its home. As a result of the Sculk terraforming this dimension, many ores (besides what little copper remains unharvested) have been converted into Sculk Pearls. These can be used to create artificial "Pearl" variations of the living Sculk blocks: Pearl Sensors, Pearl Catalysts, and Pearl Shriekers. Certain enemies and blocks inflict "Sculk Infection". An effect which acts as negative Resistance. Not dealing damage itself. But, increasing damage from all sources in opposition to the normal Resistance effect. Copper armor grants immunity to the Sculk Infection.
