I know, this has been talked about a lot of times, but I have some things to say that people haven't considered much and some possible solutions too.
As we know, mending is too broken since it makes you stop looking for ores to repair your tools and because of that you also stop using the anvil, which makes exploring and mining more unnecesary. People have said that mending shouldn't exist because of that, but the problem is not only that we'd have to grind a lot more and a lot of players won't like that, but also that we would slowly run out of materials, specially rarer and hardly renewable materials like diamond and specially in big servers where people mine almost everything. Of course, there's always some more underground and you can still get more by trading with other players, with villagers or even in the vaults of the trial chambers, but it's still too much to do to get so little (that and villagers are also OP). Also we would have to repair the items in the anvil so we don't have to enchant them again, but that eventually costs so much that it gets too expensive and we can't do it anymore. So, I have some solutions:
1. Having some way to farm these materials in small quantities only in the late game without the need of technical farms.
2. Making the cost to repair tools the same every time.
3. Changing how mending works to make it less OP so the tools eventually break anyway and we have to repair them (maybe mending just reduces/eliminates the XP cost in the anvil).
