Hello everyone!
I'd like to bring forth for discussion and voting two important proposals regarding content in Minecraft that are offensive to Christian religious views.
First, the "Smite" enchantment. The concept of "smite" in this context is associated with God, and using such a phrase in a game, even in a fantasy context, is perceived as disrespectful or inappropriate.
Second, the Totem of Undying. Its current design resembles an idol or effigy. In Christian beliefs, idolatry is strictly forbidden, and the presence of such an item, especially one offering a form of "salvation" from death, can be deeply unpleasant and offensive.
I understand that the developers didn't intend to offend anyone, and I appreciate their efforts in creating such a popular game. Minecraft's previous developer, Markus "Notch" Persson, also demonstrated care for religious sensitivities of players when, for example, he renamed the dimension "hell" to "Nether" to avoid direct associations with religious concepts of hell. This shows a precedent and possibility for adapting in-game content out of respect for Christian beliefs.
However, out of respect for God, I would like to propose considering a rename for the "Smite" enchantment and a redesign and rename for the "Totem of Undying."
Thank you for your attention and support on these important matters.
Sincerely,
zouy
