Hello Mojang Team,
I’d like to suggest an update to the offhand and interaction controls in Minecraft Bedrock Edition to improve gameplay fluidity and make offhand item use more intuitive, especially for controller and touch device players.
Current Issues:
Using the offhand item (like shields) requires sneaking or awkward control combinations.
Offhand items like totems don’t have direct use input, leading to confusing controls.
Proposed Control Scheme:
A new button that can replace crafting "use offhand"
Mine/Attack button alone: Mines blocks or attacks entities with the main hand (unchanged).
Use offhand + mine/attack buttons together: Mines blocks or attacks entities with the off-hand.
Interact button alone:
• Interacts with blocks/entities when looking at them.
• Uses the main hand item when not looking at anything interactable.
Use offhand button alone:
• Uses the offhand item if it has an active use (e.g., blocking with shield).
• Does nothing if the offhand item has no active use (e.g., totem).
Use offhand + interact buttons together (while looking at something interactable): Switches the items between main hand and offhand instead of interacting or using the offhand item.
This setup:
Makes using offhand items smooth and intuitive without sneaking.
Enables quick switching of items between hands, avoiding accidental interactions.
Respects existing mechanics like automatic totem activation.
Best regards,
