    Chiseled Bookshelves:

    • Affects the enchantments that the table has access to based on the books inside the bookshelves.
    • Books in chiseled bookshelves are not used up once acquired on an item, but it is a random chance to receive the enchantment you desire. The chance being dependent on the rarity of the enchantment in the shelf and the tier of your Magician skill.

    Enchantments reworked:

    • No longer have enchantment levels
    • Provide a static bonus depending on the enchantment applied.
    • Skills should replace anything that needs to be increased in increments.
    • For example, Sharpness would be associated with the Brawler skill, providing an incremental increase to melee weapon damage based on how many hostile mobs you defeat with melee weapons.
    • With Sharpness being incorporated into a skill, you would now be able to stack Smite on top of it, giving you extra damage against undead mobs.

    Acquiring Books:

    • Librarian villagers are able to sell all enchantments, with the rarity being tied to their rank. Very rare chance to get treasure enchantments at the max rank.
    • Rare enchantments have a decent chance be found in any structure.
    • Treasure enchantments should be difficult (but not impossible) to find, and each one should have a unique place to find them, encouraging players to explore.
    • Fishing can still be a method of acquiring enchanted items, but the rarity of the enchantments should be affected by the luck of the sea enchantment instead of being random. Rare enchantments should have a very rare chance to be acquired by default. Treasure enchantments should not be able to be acquired by default. Rare chance to acquire rare enchantments and extremely rare chance to acquire treasure enchantments with Luck of the Sea.

    Grindstone:

    • Repair and disenchant items like normal.
    • Rare chance that one of the enchantments comes off as a book.

    Anvil:

    • Can be used to combine enchantments onto one book to add to the chiseled bookshelves.
    • No increasing penalty cost for repairs or combining books/items.
    • Static XP costs depending on the amount of repair needed, rarity of enchantments and amount of enchantments being combined.
    • No more "Too expensive" please!

    Closing Statement:

I honestly think that certain enchantments were needed in the past, but are now simply cluttering our enchantment slots, simply because we have to have them (e.g. Sharpness and Efficiency). Ideally, I'd like to have skills to replace the crutch enchantments so that we can make room for enchantments like Smite and Bane of Arthropods, and add new ones like the ones in Minecraft Dungeons.

All in all, I think these changes will still keep the novelty of the slot machine pull, but make it so players have a bit more control over what they can get and also encourage them to use different enchantments, especially as they progress their skill levels.

If you like these changes or have any feedback on how this can be improved, please let me know! I'll be cooking up some new enchantments that I think should be added to the game as well, because I feel like all items deserve to have their own exclusive enchantments.
