Early in the game's lifespan, before the Halloween Update, which added biomes, only a SINGLE type of foliage was found, which was bright green. The bright green foliage existed ever since May 2009, up until October of 2010. Converting a world from a version before biomes would have biomes added... Except... the placement of said biomes would be all jumbled up. What was once a forest of oak trees would become a desert, a plains biome could be a river, etc.
The reason i suggest adding Petrified Foliage is to avoid this kind of accident, and also to add more petrified blocks besides Petrified Oak Slabs, which are mined with a pickaxe and are inflammable, based on the behavior of wood slabs in Beta 1.3, in 2011.
The Petrified Grass Block would only be obtainable via having a world file from Alpha 1.1.2_01 and earlier, and would have the appearance from the aforementioned versions. Additionally, since the top row of pixels of the side texture for a grass block uses the color from Pre-biome versions, the overlay could be discarded in this biome, and the top texture for grass could be recolored to match that side texture.
In conclusion, this suggestion could fix the problem with worlds from earlier versions that predate biomes having unfitting biome placement.
