There are a couple other ideas for copper pipes on this site, but I've had this idea floating in my brain for a good while now, and with the announcement of the new game drop, I think this is a good time to share it.
Basic premise: A copper pipe looks like a standard block from most angles, but looking from the side reveals it is a hollow tube. It can be placed directionally, like a log. The player is capable of crawling through it, and liquids can flow through it, while it is still solid from the sides. These are the very basic properties, but there are a couple more which I would see as less likely to be added. These are: Redstone dust can be placed inside it, but no other redstone components can be. The redstone can be powered by anything on the open sides of the pipe but NOT from the solid sides. In a way, this would be "insulation" for the redstone, which I think would add some interesting new possibilities for contraptions. And finally I think it would be cool if ladders could be placed inside the pipe.
In conclusion, this would add not only another use for copper and would fit in well with the new game drop, but would also add a new type of block, that being the hollow block, which could be reused for various other features, such as hollow logs.
Any thoughts?
