Oh my gosh, yes! And it makes a lot of sense, what with copper being incredibly conductive in real life.

Or you could make the powered rails craftable from either gold or copper.

100% agree especially with how common and typically useless copper is.

100 percent agree copper is incredibly lacking in uses right now and the recipe change will not only make rails cheaper and more accessible but also give copper a much needed use

Instead of being a replacement or just a stand in for gold ingots if you need to craft a powered rail, why not give it a different function? Copper rails could make Minecarts turn quickly, you put them near the edge of a turn or at turns to keep your momentum or speed up even more which means you have to use them in conjunction with gold powered rails to reach max speed (or increase the max speed to at least compete with the Elytra and Horses).

    This needs to be added

Gold rail should be reworked as “propulsion rail”, as I believe the current rail speed should all be doubled.
If not, these propulsion rails would add +1 speed whenever the minecart passes through them, probably capping speed out at 100 m/s. After 30 m/s, minecarts colliding on entities will damage them, push past them, and reduce speed by 1 m/s. Copper rails replacing powered rails could also be used to preserve the momentum of the cart at its unoxidized state. (Powering them should deoxidize them, waxing them would preserve the state)

With the new copper update I think that this would be a great idea, and especially so if you add an easter egg so if you hit the rail with lightning its powered for 5 seconds or so.

I agree. I never use powered rail because of how much gold it takes to craft them, and I don't like gold farms. If the recipe was changed to copper, I would finally start using rail, and I would have a use for all the copper gathering dust in my storage room.

In addition to this, given how hard it is to get gold without making a giant farm, gold could be used to make an even more powerful powered rail! That way the recipe stays the same and has a bigger use in railways, but railways are still affordable

I was going to ask the same thing before I saw this. You saved me some time and made the message better. I agree with this idea, but don't change the recipe from gold to copper, make it so copper can be used as an alternative to gold, keeping gold in the recipe. It's like the lantern recipe, just change the ore and make it it's own item.
