Map art is one of the best features in the game, allowing players to make custom pixel art and place it anywhere. However, it is insanely time consuming, and occasionally requires 3rd party mods and software such as Schematica, unavailable to Bedrock players.
The smallest map size is 8x8 chunks, or 128x128 blocks. To fill this area, you need 16,384 blocks, that must be manually grinded, placed and then broken back down again. All for one Map. This process can take several real life days just to build, let alone gather the materials, some of which are quite tedious to acquire depending on your palette. For some players this is simply not feasible, effectively excluding them from one of the best features in the game for a myriad of legitimate reasons.
I propose another option for players: a One Chunk resolution size. It would be 16x16 blocks (which is, incidentally, the resolution of the vanilla textures, pixel wise). At this resolution, you would require a mere 256 blocks, or 4 stacks.
Why do this? To allow anyone to make their own art, regardless of ability, time, skill level or game version, in a reasonable, balanced manner. It takes away nothing from anyone, does not require new blocks, items, convoluted mechanics, tools or mods. Only a single addition to the Cartography Table.
I cannot see any reason why making map art should be tedious, or the province of skilled players with plenty of time to spare. Absent a robust painting mechanic, I think this is an equitable alternative.
