Okay... so what makes the boats sink, specifically? How would they make dams work, what would determine what side of the rive gets blocks? What would stop it from messing up people's builds?

Minecraft, aside from the entities, has always had a still and moon-like atmosphere. It would be worth my while to make rivers flow.

The way I would propose that river currents would work is that the surface texture of water would flow and be able to move all entities, but would not change shape or thickness, just like a vertical flow would be. This is only something that can occur in world generation, similar to floating sand or gravel, but would not change to the current water physics/animation if one were to update any of the water blocks.

However there is a lot more to fluid dynamics and it will take awhile to figure out how to simulate all that in our common creeper way (minecraft way).

Flowing rivers and currents would be fun, more boats and stuff
