It takes lightning from a lightning rod and redirects it the lightning can travel 30 blocks before disappearing it can then be cought by a copper coil to get redirected again or a lightning rod to collect the lightning again and it can be converted into a redstone signal a copper coil could be crafted with a lightning rod, a dispenser and copper and lightning could be generated by water wheels into copper coils or wind mills into copper coils water wheels would generate lightning faster the more the water is moving it and windmills would generate lightning faster the further up it's placed.
