Cant use resource pack

Its not very clear if you can use the resource pack in your own world, although theres a filter for it; it is too hard to distinguish because all packs dont have a resource pack indicator, so I got an expensive pack to add on to an ordinary survival world but i am now stuck with a map that plays like a mobile game instead of adding on to ordinary minecraft.
