Us java players that have played bedrock just know that bedrock is just different. It feels different, inventory is different, mechanics are different, blah blah blah. IF Microsoft wanted to have just ONE version, this is what I think should be done. Make the Bedrock version exactly like java, but run on c++ (or something else, I don't know what else could be used). I get you can't put the java code in google translate and bam there ya go, but if the game played like that's what was done, I think it would be alright. Yes, mods will be hard. I am not a programmer by any means, but I think I have a general idea of how it works. But still, new versions of the game are making it so much harder to update mods, so what the big deal if it switches to c++ at this point? As long as the original Java edition is still available for mods and such, I don't think it would be that bad. If you already want a good mod experience you have to use 1.12 for some of the really fun mods. But better performance, crossplay for everyone. And if new bedrock plays and looks exactly like Java, then I think the console guys would be getting a huge upgrade. Just imagine you're playing regular java edition, but it uses c++, and you can play it on Xbox, PS, and whatever else there is. I think this is the answer, but that's just me.
