Scorched Lava would be a more intimidating and potent version of normal lava. It has a more red color, and generates below Y: 0. It has the ability to melt blocks, as well as being unable to be put out by water as the water evaporates on contact.
Some blocks have a longer tolerance of this heat compared to others, this usually depends on the block's original environment, including crafted blocks.
Near-surface blocks like Dirt, Cobblestone, & Granite would melt the fastest if put into Scorched Lava. They would last 15 seconds before being completely destroyed.
Blocks in more hot and/or deeper environments would last longer in the lava before being melted. This includes Netherrack, Crimson/Warped Wood, Blackstone, Basalt, and Deepslate. These blocks last 1 minute in the lava before melting.
There are only 2 blocks that cannot melt in Scorched Lava, Magma and Obsidian. While one being hard to get and the other having a crouching mechanic to avoid getting hurt, this would be an interesting strategy.
Blocks can still be effected if at least 5 blocks above the lava, to avoid cheating the system.
In conclusion, Scorched Lava would make bridging across more strategic when getting to the more common ores like Diamond, as you have to rely on timing and type of block used to avoid falling into this dangerous lava. It would also make some blocks more useful.
