Diamond Shards (Hear me out...)

Minecraft survival mode is arguably very easy. So I was thinking, what if it were harder to obtain diamonds in a different way other than how they're generated?

 

Introducing: Diamond Shards. Kind of like a raw diamond but it isn't smelted to obtain the actual item. Diamond shards drop when mining a diamond ore, 1 shard with a pickaxe with no fortune, and about the same number of shards with fortune like the other raw ores. In order to get diamonds again, you would need 4 diamond shards in a crafting table in a square, it gives 1 diamond.

 

This would be interesting and challenging all in one. You need diamonds to get the best gear in the game, and diamonds are easily accessible especially in the new caves. So I think this would add more challenge which is what survival mode needs.

    this idea sucks. I have never even been able to make a full diamond set in survival, so making it four times harder is extremely unfair for people like me.

    I love this idea! Every time I play, I get fully enchanted diamond gear by the 6th hour without fail. Making diamonds harder to obtain would drastically increase the challenge that I do deeply crave.
