Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Shield + Totem of Undying

You should be able to craft a shield and a Totem of Undying together. There is no reason that this shouldn't happen, and this would be one step closer to fixing the inventory problem. Crafting a shield with a Totem of Undying would create a shield with the totem on the front with the same health as the shield originally had. If you dye holding it, it would perform the undying effect and become a regular shield.

But that is the reason I don't think they did this. So that you couldn't be overly strong and this way promotes good inventory management. Even if this did get implemented what would it save you, one slot? Again the idea is there but find a way that wouldn't make it too broken.
