I know, I know. Glowing Mushrooms? YAWN. But here me out, glowshrooms could fit very well into the game. It would not only add a new wood type, glowing hyphae, but it would also add a safe area in the dark deepslate layers.
Similar to how mooshrooms spawn on mushroom islands, glow squids would spawn in glowshroom caves, and no axolotls would spawn in them. They would have a chance of replacing lush caves below Y 0, as they do not generate above that layer.
The biome would be very bright, as all mushrooms in the biome will give of a high level of light. Mushrooms can also be crafted with sticks to get glow sticks, which aren't as bright as torches, but can still prevent mob spawns, be used underwater, and act as a substitute for coal. However, it doesn't work in a furnace.
Glowshroom mycelium would be constantly forcing glowshrooms to grow, meaning that players could make a glowshroom farm for a constant supply of light sources.
Glow Inc sacks could be crafted with any mushroom to make a glowshroom, adding an actual use to the glow squid.
Glowsticks can also be loaded into crossbows, because why not.
Overall, I think that Glowshroom biomes would be a safe and fun place for players to visit after a scary trip to the deep dark, letting them gather materials for light sources in places where coal doesn't generate, and allowing them to rest for no mobs can spawn there other than the glow squid.
