Playing around with the new snapshot, and realizing how much I like the idea of the climate of a certain biome affecting how you approach it. Having to wear leather boots in the mountains to avoid falling through powdered snow, specifically. Since the desert biome is meant to get some attention in the future, I had the idea that maybe if you wore heavier armor you would start to take heat damage. This would make traversing the desert more risky since you wouldn't have as much protection. To balance it, say you can wear it during night when it cools down?
Edit: Another idea along the same vain came to mind recently. What if heavier armor would make you sink underwater? You could still move and jump underwater unimpeded, but your ability to swim would be completely hampered. Maybe this is an inherently bad idea, but I just thought I'd tack it on here hahaha.
