Building a Downhill Staircase

With mountains reaching incredible new height, a way to build a staircase down more easily would be appreciated. If you walk to the edge of a block and walk off, the second where your legs are next to the block and not below it, you should be able to place a block directly below your feet If that's to dangerous, make it so that when you cursor off the bottom side of the block, a black outline of the block below appears where you can place a block below yourself to build a diagonal staircase down.

  I can kind of imagine it like the bedrock Bridging but downwards with stairs
