As it currently stands iron is a pain to collect, I know iron generation will change in 1.17 but I still feel like my idea is valid. As a Minecrafter I feel forced to create iron and gold farms because of the difficulty in gathering large quantities of iron or gold. Part of the reason these metals are more difficult to collect than gems is because there is no way to increase your yield like you can with fortune, another reason is that these metals are used for more things than gems and are therefor harder to save a lot of. My solution to this problem would be a forge, perhaps it could be tied in to some nether materials or even some deep dark area (It should be late game). The forge would have a normal furnace interface except the fuel would require a lava bucket and it would smelt 3 metal ores at a time (You could still have 64 ore but 3 would be smelted at once). The product of one smelt would not be 3 iron ingots(You could use gold as well) but instead the bucket from the lava fuel would be used to create a "bucket of molten iron" in the output area. This bucket of molten iron could be turned into an iron block by placing water over it (like creating obsidian). This would improve the game because it would offer a way to make mining an actual option to compete with iron and gold farms. The best part is because of the nature of buckets you would be able to use dispensers(you could dispense the molten metals) and pistons to make creative, semi-automatic smelteries.
