interesting and definitely a needed concept. maybe the lumberjack can sell things such noteblocks or jukeboxes, since they require wood to make. Or even petrified wood and its variants.

Actually I'm not against wood or sapling trades, but it would be pretty sad to get only 10 for 1 emerald. Since wood's really common, 1 emerald for a stack of saplings & 1 emerald for 24 wood(& stripped wood) wouldn't be bad, especially if you are in the early game or have an emerald farm. But there could be other useful things to trade with. What if Lumberjacks could sell wood carvings of MC mobs? That would be really cool. That's the only way you would get them. Lumberjacks are more experienced with wood than the others, so they could have custom wood items like that. And since you can't un-craft wood items, maybe trading emeralds would give you a lot more fences, slabs, & stairs than you would get with trading normal wood. Maybe you would get a stack and a half of fences or slabs for an emerald. Yes that's cheap, but so is wood itself. Anything lower than that might not be worth trading with.

You would give the lumberjack wood and saplings for emeralds because villagers receive raw materials and give finished products. Also getting 24 wood would be so unbalanced that no one would ever chop down trees again, and you can craft them into sticks to trade with a flecther and get an infinite profit.

My son and I were just talking over a similar idea. Lumberjack/woodcutter/carpenter villager could buy/sell logs and planks at low levels and level up to signs, fences, axes, and rarer woods. Maybe even throw stripped logs in the mix somewhere.

I think you're thinking too small. Why stop at wood stairs and slabs? It could also be used to craft fences and fence gates with a 1:1 ratio, the same way you can make walls with a stonecutter. As it stands, you end up losing a plank (more if you count sticks as half a plank) when you craft fences or gates. It could also be used for trapdoors, which currently require six planks for just two trapdoors, and maybe even regular doors as well.

I also don't see much of a problem with a villager type that sells wood. As someone who uses a lot of wood, it's pretty hard to get enough of it without a large-scale tree farm. There are villagers you can buy food from, which hardly anyone is going to do, but it's an option. Buying wood from a villager would just be another option for how to get it.

I really think the wood should get it's counterpart like stone. If there is a ever a lumberjack villager (which should exist tbh), I hope he can have a varied inventory like masons or shepherds.

A woodcutter/sawmill is a great idea and is absolutely necessary for Minecraft. The stonecutter makes building with stone much more efficient and cost-effective than building with wood. A crafting station that would allow wood planks to be instantly converted to stairs, slabs, and even fences would be incredibly useful and not at all overpowered, as this is something players can already do with stone. There is absolutely no reason stone blocks should get this privilege and not wood blocks. This should be equalized and a woodcutter/sawmill should be added to the game. As for a lumberjack villager, I think this is a very interesting proposition, but honestly, if a woodcutter/sawmill is added to the game I would be ecstatic.

I really miss a woodcutter with a similar function as a stone cutter. For me, it doesn't even need to be a workstation for a villager, at least not at the beginning, but could be similar to the crafting table. Or the crafting table, which already looks like a workbench, could be upgraded using some metal / ore to include woodcuter functionality. It could be balanced in a way that you need to start with logs or planks and it makes items crafted with sticks more expensive than crafting them by hand while making items such as stairs cheaper and making all items individually craftable (e.g. 1 door = 2 planks).

I still like the idea of a lumberjack villager too - but this is secondary to a woodcutter for me. I like the trading ideas of the lumberjack buying quite a bit of wood / saplings for emeralds and selling crafted items. I can also imagine the lumberjack working similar to a farmer and roaming around a certain distance from the workstation to cut down trees.

I really wish this would come into play. Big projects with wood really leech wood reserves when crafting things like stairs and fences.

This is a no brainier. I'm constantly annoyed by needing 1 block for 1 stair in a stonecutter and then 6 for 4 in a crafting table. This needs more attention

I think the sawmill should be crafted with copper and iron. And it could be very useful for making not only stairs, but also doors, trapdoors, fences, fence gates, and maybe wood tools. It could strip wood as well, saving your axe's durability.

As for the Lumberjack villager, they could buy various saplings and axes. They can sell logs and planks at level 1. But at higher levels, they can start selling leaves, 6-sided wood blocks, and even charcoal.

I saw a mod for this awhile ago and I have to say having a sawmill would be fantastic! it would conserve so much resources and you know maybe it could contain a few new recipes too! for instance the bamboo mosaic block? why not have like a type of decorational block like that! it could only be crafted in a sawmill! I would love to see a Lumberjack villager too! maybe he could trade stuff like sticks for emeralds like the fletcher but have another chance to trade saplings for emerald too I mean every lumberjack needs to repopulate the cutdown trees right? In addition to those you could trade him emeralds for axes much like the weapon smith and maybe iron for emeralds? then in return these lumberjacks will be biome dependant too so they will have wood trades depending on the biomes they are closest too so for instance a spruce village next to a roofed forest and birch forest could have trades like birch logs for emeralds or even spruce logs for emeralds!
