In 1.14, the stonecutter was introduced to Minecraft, which made building with stone variants far less tedious. No longer did you have to craft too many of a certain item just to build your house; you could craft (more or less) exactly how many you needed. However, this isn't true for wood; we still have to use the same old method of putting six planks in a crafting table to get four stairs. I think that there should be some kind of Woodcutter or Sawmill workstation to serve this purpose; this would function very similarly to the stone cutter, except it would be for the different wood variants. Additionally, I think that this block could be crafted with three logs and a piece of copper, to set it apart from the stonecutter. The only issue I could see with this is how it interacts with villagers; the stonecutter is the workstation for the mason villager, and you'd think that the woodcutter/sawmill would be the workstation for some kind of lumberjack villager. Admittedly, I don't really know how a lumberjack type villager could ever really work, since it definitely should not sell wood or saplings, so I'm not really sure what trades it would even have. But you guys are the devs; you can figure that part out.
