Witching hour is the period at night during which mysterious and supernatural forces lure players towards the Deep Dark. It is a random event with a rare chance of happening. It can also be called a Grim Night, named after grimstone.
When witching hour starts, floaty burning orbs known as will-o'-the-wisps can start spawning at least 4m away from the player. They hover ~1.5m above the ground and will slowly drift away from you as you walk closer, so you follow it. They'll drift around trees and walls and around other mobs, leading you on a winding path towards the closest Deep Dark. If you get too close, or shoot a projectile at it, it'll disappear in a puff of smoke dropping gunpowder. You can't follow it forever because it will burn out on its own anyway, but more may spawn throughout the night. They can spawn underground, lure villagers away from their village, or lead your pets and horses astray.
Another way to tell if its witching hour is to look at the Moon. There will be a dark spot that resembles the Warden's mouth, like an eclipse alluding to the Warden. It would be easiest to see the Warden's face when it is full. The moonlight cast from the Warden Moon can cause abnormal behavior such as hostile mobs being entranced by the Moon, making the night even spookier.
Players who skip every night can still experience witching hour. When they go to sleep, instead of waking up in the morning, they will be jolted awake by a Warden/Sculk sound effect and wake up at witching hour.
