Agreed the name is a lot better I don't know why they changed it. Also I think it need to be a little bit darker, they lightened it up this snap shot and i think it need to be closer to how it was before.
I think they changed the name because people might accidentally call it brimstone, which is a rock commonly associated with hell. A name like grimstone or brimstone would work better as a nether block with that context.
I agree, grimstone just sounds a lot better than deepslate. since it’s supposed to be able to be used as a stone variant it makes sense to keep “stone” part of the name — blackstone is the nether version, after all, and it’s still called blackSTONE
also, a name like grimstone keeps in with the spookier, more dangerous aspect of the -x levels they seem to be aiming for. deepslate sounds like you could find it anywhere — grimstone sounds like it belongs deep in the underbelly of the world
Ofcourse it doesn't sound like Minecraft, because that is the first time for it to exist in Minecraft. I also thought that Grimstone was quite weird and eerie when I first heard the name. The purpose of the rename, according to Henrik Kniberg, was because the old name basically sounded grim. That might seem as a positive, but for the developers, the mood you get from a certain block or mob shouldn't just be told to you. It's like telling you that you must feel grim when seeing the block. There is something more interesting about a block that feels grim wtihout direct association with the word grim, and the developers think it fits more into the design. At least that is what I got from Henrik Kniberg's tweet.
You guys are really mixed up. Deepslate is the new name for Grimstone. Tuff now generates below Y=0 instead of Andesite. Deepslate/Grimstone by the way was made very slightly lighter you can bearly notice it. I like that they decreased the contrast because from afar it could get mixed up with Blackstone.
Judging by the way the snapshot was worded, I have two theories, we may get another depth improvement to either -128 with grimstone being that layer or there may be another section involving the grimstone as a biome itself, perhaps the warden section.
If they don't rename the deepslate back to grimstone they should at least name the stone block we saw in Minecraft Live in the Deep Dark (with the warden) to grimstone.
"deepslate" looks and sounds too much like "deepstate" and thinking of conspiracy theories about corruption and QAnon and a shadow government secretly controlling everything behind the scenes while trying to play Minecraft makes me unhappy
For the last time: Grimstone and Deepslate are not seperate blocks. They're the same block except Grimstone was renamed to Deepslate and re-textured, just like how Zombie Pigmen were renamed and re-textured to become Zombified Piglins. Grimstone and Deepslate are not seprate blocks. The blocks we saw at Minecraft Live are also just a lighter version of Deepslate.
