Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

you would only need to add 1 stairs block. 1 slab block. 1 transparent block. 1 solid block, 1 wall, 1 fence

only 1 block for each shape/ hitbox. the blockstate would determine which color / texture is loaded. these would be obtainable in /give By default. data packs would determine how they are obtained in survival worlds

couldn't they just give all blocks custom model data?

I recently thought about this concept too. For example, a "template" block could have multiple properties.

The first accepting a large number such as 1024, this will be the basis for the main block texture. The other properties may accept smaller numbers, this would allow for said block to have its own states.

There could be a "template" block per block type, maybe even a "template" block that can tick too. This would open the doors for far more creativity on servers with resource packs and/or plugins.

I doubt such an idea will ever make it into the game, but there is no denying what you could do with such a feature.
