In minecraft's current worlds, it's clear quite a few things have happened, (even pretending like The Game Theorist's minecraft videos don't exist.)
What if, when choosing to generate a world, you could choose to generate it in an era before that of current worlds? (currently, all I can imagine is something like "past" or "present", as Minecraft doesn't have an official timeline.) Being able to see, for example, bastions in their full, non-dilapidated state would be awesome. (assuming they were built at the time) Plus, maybe this could be a method of, say, adding "red dragons", as mentioned by Notch. The past era itself would differ in substantial ways.
Currently, Minecraft worlds have a lot of stuff that had to have a distinct origin. (tridents, mob spawners, soul valleys, end cities, ancient debris, actually-just-about-every non-village structure, etc.) In the past era, maybe the stuff has yet to be formed/created, or is currently being made/constructed could be expanded on?
My primary idea is: In Minecraft, players explore the (long-term) aftermath of a variety of things. What if we could see those events or what was there before them?
