This has little to do with "Mineshaft" structures already in Minecraft, and more to do with the players ability to ascend and descend quickly and reliably. [An example picture is at the bottom]
Why?
Because of the Caves and Cliffs Updates, as players, more emphasis will be on our z-axis than ever before. After seeing the new ore generation elevations it was made abundantly clear that up is just as important as down. [The picture provided by Mojang is at the bottom]

If the game assumes we'd have reason to mine into mountains for Emeralds, and more importantly Iron, we'd still want to get diamonds, gold and Redstone. Which means mountain bases/homes would be almost 256 blocks away from those resources. In the current version (1.16.5) going into caves and mines is already quite a trek, but now even digging straight up or down would be INCREDIBLY more tedious, slow, and dangerous.
Which is why I propose Mineshaft Elevators. It'd be cool if they used copper in some way, but basically, a mechanical lift that can bring us up and down from our base to our mines, like in real life. (I've been in one to get into just a normal cave, they go down really deep). This could lead to mining camps at the bottom of the shaft, where we store items for a later hoist up to our base/surface with less hassle, while letting us stay down there prolonged periods.
