Well, the Deep Dark is supposed to be challenging for late-game players, what with the Warden and all, and that's why Mojang upped the ore rates down there. The coal would just take up space, leaving less room for diamonds to spawn. Giving a player coal for killing a boss you aren't even supposed to kill would just be plain dumb. Even besides that, it's also a texture issue. Deep Slate (as its now called) is a very dark color, almost as dark as blackstone. The coal wouldn't pop out on the block, even if you were standing right next to it. If you wanted to add it into the Deep Dark as merely a collector's item, I suggest putting a "Deep Slate Coal Ore" in new generating chests or existing structures, like abandoned mineshafts.

If this only generated in fossils, than it would not tweak the ore balance at all.

This has been already added, but it’s unobtainable

Coal should not have been removed/ reduced/ or unavailable below ground. particularly below y=0 where you will need torches the most and it should be spawning where the diamonds are anyway. There should AT LEAST be a regular amount available at EVERY level below sea level

Grindy games are NOT fun and having to grind away in the mountains tunneling and using my coal there to make torches for those tunnels only to obtain coal in the first place for trades or torches or fuel or WORSE . . . .  to go exploring the caves removes any plus for this update.

Put the coal back! Yes to Grimstone coal
