In the new update the world generation is going to change drastically which is an exciting new challenge for many people but they might not be able to translate their old worlds to the new update or may just want to use the smaller world generation without looking at getting to complex and technical or sacrificing new features. Just like people who prefer flat worlds there will be people who want to play on the world generation from 1.16 in the future. If we had a new world generation called short with the new 1.17 update with the current world generation it could be a way to access old worlds in the same way without the glitches that are bound to come with replacing the bedrock and adding 64 block heights to every chunk. This provide every one with more flexibility in playing Minecraft how they want to. A addition feature for short worlds could be "grim dungeons" as an optional feature in their world which would have chests of "deepslate" and have mob spawners for the mobs that only spawn at - y values in the new "default" world generation to obtain the items that are made impossible to get without going below y 0.
