The Issue
In the current version of Minecraft, the Wandering Trader is arguably useless, selling easily obtainable plants and other common overworld blocks for an expensive price. I can't even recall one time that I bought anything from them, and from the sounds of things it doesn't seem like I'm alone in this. However, even though Wandering Traders are essentially useless right now, there seems to have been a missed opportunity in making them actually useful or even essential:
Selling Lost Items
Have you ever died in Minecraft and lost all your hard-earned items to lava or had them despawn before you could get to them in time? Well what if the Wandering Trader could actually sell your despawned items back to you?
How Should This Be Done?
If this feature should be implemented, it should be balanced very carefully, otherwise it could be too overpowered and could disrupt the game. Here are some ways that it could be balanced:
-The Trader would only sell your most valuable armor, and your tools, that have clearly despawned from the world. Any other items like potions or foods that you had lost would be unrecoverable.
-Wandering Traders should sell them at a price that clearly makes sense (although the price should be slightly more expensive than usual since it is essentially giving you a second chance), depending on the rarity and how many enchantments said armor or tools had.
Why?
-Would actually make wandering traders useful.
-Gives players a second chance.
-More uses for emeralds.
