    It also makes strip-mining a lot better than exploring caves, which is terrible. The whole point of the update is the caves, so why is caving the worst way to find them? Strip-mining is safer and now it's going to be a way more reliable way to find diamonds, but it's soooo boring.

    The thing about diamonds being too easy to find is it devalues diamonds. Yes diamond tools and armor have been devalued by villager trading, but not diamond ore, diamonds, and diamond blocks.

    no. diamonds were way too easy to get in the earlier snapshots. I'm glad they fixed it.

    I don't like the ore distribution changes that reduce some of the ores generating exposed to air. 

    Less ores exposed to air just mean stripmining continues to become the only efficient mining method, which is very, very boring. I hope the devs don't go in that direction bc this game has way too much stripmining, which is only fun for, like OP said, "technical or industrial" playstyles.

    The thing is though, if diamonds are harder to find, it would make you wanna explore more.

    If you play around on survival mode and get far enough below down in a cave, there are diamonds o' plenty for you to see. Also, water seems to count as a non-air block, so it's partly an incentive to explore underwater caves.

    The bigger caves are the culprits, they absolutely needed to make this change. Sometimes a nerf is a really good thing. Ores are too exposed, it accelerates progression too drastically, everything happens too quickly. Even with the changes where Diamonds are partially hidden, I've literally found five different Diamond veins in a single cheese cave while playing in survival. If anything, Diamonds still need to be rarer.
