Grimstone should not be used to craft tools or furnaces

The Grimstone Depths should be a lot more challenging and should demand a lot more preparation and strategical planning to be rewarding It is way to easy to reach and make Branch/Strip Mines for easy ores. So, i believe making Grimstone harder to break and not useful for crafting tools would be a lot more challenging, since you would need to come prepared with better pickaxes (iron and above) and with a few backups. Acessing and exploring the dephts should really be less easy

  I agree with not using it to make stone tools but not with the other stone recipes. As it is iron doesnt spawn that low so using it to make furnaces wouldnt make the trek down any easier. You are going to end up with an abundance of grimstone like other stone types so if you cant use them and cobble enterchangably it will just add to the clutter

  You can make stone tools and furnaces with BLACKSTONE. You shouldn't be complaining about doing it with grimstone.
