The new caves and cliffs update is looking amazing and will be a excellent addition to Minecraft. When exploring these new large cave systems, it can be difficult to judge the size and complexity of the cave that you are in, it would be a massive dark area that you would have no idea what your surrounding look like. So to help achieve a better and faster reveal of the massive cave's size and layout would be to use a rocket with a "lighting charge" in it. When fired the rocket would travel until it makes contact with a block or it could go until the fuse goes out, which then the rocket would explode and give off a bright light. This light would brighten a large amount of the cave allowing the player to quickly gather information of the impressively large cave before the darkness once consumes the area after the light diminishes.
The Light given off from the rocket explosion would be a fairly intense flash of light that would slowly reduce to darkness. This Lighting period would be fairly quick, with in a 1 to 3 second window. A lot of information can be collected in that time. Though it is important that the light does not shine for so long that players are able to remember all the ore placements of the cave. It is more of a way to reveal the size and beauty of the cave, the work of mobs that lie ahead, and to add to the players excitement of seeing a few rare ores. Which then the player would go to placing more permanent light sources as they explore.
