This is a suggestion involved with ease of lighting up the massive caves featured in the Caves & Cliffs update. The size of the new caves make them perfect for player habitation, but very dangerous due to the many mobs which spawn in the darkness. I propose adding some sort of projectile to the game, similar to a snowball or even an arrow, that upon contact with a block, it places down some sort of new light source block adjacent to the block-face hit. This would make lighting up the new caves for both spelunking and habitation more safe for the player, and help out in uncovering ore location on the high up dark ceilings.
The obvious idea is that this light projectile could be obtained via a crafting recipe involving the newly added Glow Ink Sac which is dropped by the Glow Squid mob. If such an idea seems like it would trivialize early-game cave spelunking too much, the crafting recipe for the hypothetical Light Projectile could easily could require materials from either the Nether (i.e. Glowstone) or from the End (Chorus Fruit perhaps?) thus gating off the projectile until the item until later in the game. In addition, if the Glow Squid was a mob exclusively found in the new Aquifers located in the updated Caves, then that would first require the player to go spelunking in order to obtain their drops first before having access to the Light Projectile.
