If you want to play Minecraft for the first time, chances are you'll be completely confused and lost. Though the game's crafting book might guide the player a little bit, they'll never know about the majority of the features unless they look them up, and that's just a shame. Self-discovery works for some games, but a lot of Minecraft's important game features are so obscure that no one would figure it out on their own. And it's even harder when a new update hits and players have to go look everything up again. Here are just a few ideas to help guide beginners through the game.
- A "What's This" button that would give you a brief description of any item you were looking at, whether in block form or in your inventory. This would help players understand what a block's obscure uses might be (such as obsidian being able to create a nether portal, but also being super resistant and only breakable with a strong pickaxe). This would also help veteran players (like myself) figure out all of a new update's features without looking them up.
- A tutorial world as a default template, because Bedrock Edition's encyclopedia is hidden too far within menus for anyone to actually find it.
- Some tweaks to the recipe book to unlock more recipes earlier on, such as giving players a torch recipe when they get a wood pickaxe instead of stone, or giving players the Flint & Steel recipe when they obtain obsidian (that second part may already exist, so ignore it if it does).
