The glow squid's only purpose right now is to drop glow ink sacks. While a unique drop is neat, I feel more can be done with this squid, behavior-wise. My idea would be to make the glow squid an "underwater hazard", a mob that, while won't hunt you down, still serves as a challenging underwater obstacle.
To suit this new role, I feel it is appropriate to give it some kind of "trance" ability. How it would work is that, if the players was <20 blocks away from the squid, and the player's cursor enters it's hitbox, the player would enter a trance, indicated by muffled sounds and a dark-blue tint around the screen, and apply many negative effects, such as...
- Drastically lowered cursor sensitivity, making looking away hard.
- Slower swim speed, making you more vulnerable to drowning.
- Lowered brightness.
The trance will slowly wear off if the player looks well outside the squid's hitbox, or damages the squid. This trance can also be prevented if the player wears a pumpkin, has Conduit Power, or is outside water (so glow squids can be used in aquariums or sea bases safely).
The reasons for why I think it should work this way is that it would provide some much needed challenge for underwater exploration. It would also give a reason for pumpkins to be used underwater. The idea of a "hazard" type of enemy is something Minecraft lacks, as most harmful mobs in the game are hostile/neutral, so a mob like this would be a first, making the glow squid something truly to be distracted by.
