Player heads as a block are unique. They can have the texture of any player's skin and it's data is stored in a way that allows retrieving entire player skin. Allowing editing placed skull block model would allow so many creative things like making a little statue of the player instead of just the head. allowing people map the player skin to the custom model is one of the things I think may have the most potential as it's one block model (if we don't count wall heads) that could be used with multiple textures using player skins. People already do crazy staff using just normal player heads, why not give those people even more opportunities to create even crazier stuff?
