For as long as Minecraft has existed there have been two major realms of play, Combat and building. Magic is a tool to these two, only being used as additions. My point is, Magic alone is not a single realm of play style, you can’t boot up a world and start you life of Magic, no you can only use Magic as a perk to self sustaining areas of play. What would a self sustaining Magic path look like? Before I say anything else you need to know that the creators at Mojang have the first and last day in this. My suggestions are as follows, A Minecrafty way of obtaining Magic relics “totems of undying” are a good example, because in Minecraft everyone needs a fair start “ no Magic gift on birth” no instead a player can obtain exp from using these magical “ un craft able items” there perhaps would be a way to obtain a magic wand/ staff and embue it with a geode crystal to give it a magic durability that would need replacement. I also suggest a spell book “ not an enchanting table” this spell book would be necessary to use the wand/ staff for tasks. The book would take exp but you would have plenty due to your totems, to use on simple spells that would perhaps grant one channeling strike or 15 seconds of levitation. Over all I believe Magic needs an update it has not nearly the respect it needs and to be honest we all want to be Gandalf running around with legendary power.
