I think if the warden simply inflicted an effect preventing the player from placing and breaking blocks quickly I have a post about it here https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/360074983371-the-warden-scream

I thnk its fine if the Warden breaks block if its just in the Deep Caves and in his direct vicinity while chasing the player. unlike the creeper its not a radius and they dont spawn outside the deep caves or explode out of nowhere, they would just attack the block between them and the player one at a time

Really, you should just try to avoid the Warden, but if you're bad at that, I think this would be a good solution

I wouldn't do a hand clap, maybe an uber-powerful heartbeat

A ranged attack would work. I'd add that maybe if the player has aggravated a warden, and gets out of range, the warden can reappear out of nearby skulk blocks. There are alternatives to a ranged attack too- such as mining fatigue. (Or how about this: If the Warden is near the player but cannot reach them, it can create 'Skulk Vines' that travel through blocks, and deal damage/ensnare the player on contact- effectively preventing pillaring and tunneling.)

The Warden shouldn't be unbeatable- you should be able to defeat it, or at least escape. But it shouldn't have an especially easy solution.

What if it climbed up or dug down to reach you
