Currently a player can scale a mountain in less than a minute, but you are supposedly working on that. In my mind, mountains should be taller, but also a lot wider. It should take several in game days to get to the alpine tundra, and a few more to get to the snowline. THAT'S how big I want it.
When you do get to the top, you can see everywhere. But you are also in the embrace of the beautiful alpine landscape (cliffs with small ledges and caves, talus, hills, glaciers with caves of their own, lakes, and peaks), plants (flowers, grass), animals (marmots [giant squirrel], mountain goats, pika) and the people who have survived way up here where the air is thinner and colder. However at night it gets very cold, so cold in fact that no entities with body heat can spawn above ground (except those who live here) and players will be weaker and more vulnerable to the elements; if you fall into a frozen lake, you'll be even weaker and will slowly take damage, and if there's a wind in the mix you'll be chilled to the bone and perish. At this point, being prepared for terrible weather conditions like blizzards and freezing temperatures is essential, so make a shelter and put on a coat with a protective layer of leather, and an insulative layer of wool. And be sure to warm up your shelter with a simple furnace.
