Placing Marks on the Map

Dear Minecraft-Team,

while trying to complete the map by flying around the world i found many interesting places to explore once i switch to adventure mode. I wasn´t keen on forgetting them so i wanted to mark them on the map. Unfortunaty that doesn´t work...and that´s why im writing this post here. :D

I imagine it to work like this:

While you look at the map you can hold down ALT to move the crosshair in the middle with the mouse. You can draw lines etc. on it with the left mouse button. The right one is used for Erasing.

  I had a different idea for the mechanic, I thought maybe they introduce a different item which is called the pen or quill pen which is crafted from a feather and squid ink sac. Then they introduce a crafting recipe for a new type of map which is called the map and pen, where you craft it using a map and a pen (alternatively, it could just be a map, squid ink sac and feather and not have the pen at all). When the map and pen is right clicked, the current coordinate is marked on the map with an X, just like a treasure map, except that it can be done over and over with multiple X's, until the player decides that they're done and lock it on the Cartographer's Table.
