This is purely a post about gameplay, but I feel I must provide some context to get my idea across.
I know there is nothing stopping a player with the resources to just craft an Ender chest and take it to the End. However, imagine it in the context of an overhauled End that spawns you far away from the Dragon, contains new biomes, and features that prepare you for your fight with the dragon whilst making the journey toward it. In that context, you'd spend a lot more time in the End before ever fighting the dragon and opening the portal to the Overworld; one would quite likely run out of Overworld exclusive items that they would need for one reason or another, or simply forget an important or desired item in another dimension. If the End was revamped in such a way, it would strongly discourage players from going to the End without an Ender chest, as you would have to kill yourself to get back to your last spawn. Perhaps later on you could have an End anchor to respawn at (limited to late game via rare items found only in a biome that is non-adjacent to the End spawn), or be forced to use an Elytra to get back to where you were before dying. In the earlier portions of the End, however, this would give players more incentive to get just a few more blaze rods before running away in sheer terror. Maybe most players already do this, but this has the potential to fundamentally change how the End is first approached.
