A deep dark structure similar to woodland mansions and bastion remnants. Generates in large caverns. A derelict, looming edifice of crumbling grey brick, emerging from the cavern floor like a jagged tooth, its outer walls overgrown with sculk growth. The tall windows on the upper floors gape like empty eyes – no light has passed through them for a long time. Perhaps it was the monument of a previous civilization, long abandoned, which over long centuries slowly sank into the earth. While Wardens won’t enter them – making them a temporary refuge – there may be worse awaiting you there.
The inside resembles a mausoleum, with hollow crypt-like rooms, grim staircases, and long dark halls flanked by weeping statues. Even the sculk growth avoids the interior – this is a place no living thing is meant to enter. Whispers haunt you through the endless file of bleak rooms. While a number of rooms contain chests, there are also deadly booby traps.
As you head deeper into the structure, you encounter increasing numbers of traps. The whispering intensifies, until you begin to see pale featureless figures that fade into being and then vanish. If you move while a figure is fully present, it will fly through you and vanish, taking off a chunk of hearts. The frequency of these apparitions increases the longer you remain.
In addition to valuable rewards (new music disk?), the monument could even have a portal room leading to a new dimension. Perhaps this is what the Wardens have been guarding?
