Ancient Runes are found rarely in Archeology Sites, about one per site. They look like a damaged stone tablet with an unidentifiable rune on them when you find them. If you want to use them, you have to repair them on an anvil with Lapis Lazuli. Afterwards the Ancient Rune will have a more defined look, obtaining a new shade of gray, as well as the rune on them becoming identifiable now.
These Runes can be activated by using them like an item. Runes come in different types, and these types all do different things. For example, one Rune, Rune A, will accelerate the growth of all plants(grass growing on dirt, crops, vines, etc.) in a 9x9 cube for 30 seconds when used, but another Rune, Rune B, will create a Ravager roar, knocking back and damaging all non-tamed entities.
Runes need exp points to work, and will drain you for it when used. If you don't have enough to use the Rune, it won’t work. Different runes need different amounts of exp points to use. Runes are also draining to use, and have a cooldown period when using each one. The cooldown will mainly affect the rune you used, but also affect other Runes as well. Using Rune A will put it on a 45 second cooldown, and put other runes on a 10 second cooldown, and drain 15 Exp points from the player. Using Rune B will put it on a cooldown of 60 seconds, and put other Runes on a cooldown of 12 seconds, and cost the player 22 exp points. Runes also have durability, and will turn back to their ruined state when they break.
